about

Ahh, the phases of this song. This song originated a long time ago. It began as a song called "Everything Will be Okay." EWBO was a song that's music was written by Adam Mace, and lyrics were written by Adam Mace and I. It was originally a song written for an Adam Mace album, and I was simply the featured artist on that particular song.

About a year later Adam and I, and some other gay guys formed a band called "Gay Guys." So, being as crafty as we are, Adam & I decided to re-write the lyrics to Everything Will Be Okay, but keep the same music for it. EWBO in general was about being okay with yourself, which was good, but we wanted the song to hold that same meaning, but speak more specifically about gays.

So, I wrote and recorded vocals for what would become the chorus of "You've Got To and sent it to the other band-mates so they could record verses and whatnot." Then the song received its finishing touches and was sent to LGBT radio stations across the world. The Gay Guys band were 1 week away from releasing it to the public for sale and download on iTunes when they (we) broke up.

Loving the song so much, and not wanting to let it go, and to avoid copyright infringement, I took the lyrics I had written, and the melody in which I sang them, and wrote and recorded new music for it. Then, instead of using the original lyrics that were written by other band members, I wrote my own verses to go with the chorus I had originally written for it. Thus being born my own original song "You've Got To." Although I lost touch with most the guys of the band, I did learn that Adam Mace had re-released the song on his own, using all of the original "You've Got To" parts of the song, except replacing the chorus I had written specifically for the song with the chorus from the original song "Everything Will Be Okay."

lyrics

Verse 1:
It seems that everybody around me always fuckin lets me down
People think they can walk all over me and then just block me out
I’ve seen one too many two faces out there to make me think low of myself
Who cares if you’re straight and I’m gay I mean what the fucks that all about

Chorus:
You’ve got to feel like you’re in a world where you belong
You’ve got to feel like you’re in a place where you are loved
You’ve got to know that you’re not just someone you’re a star
You’ve got to believe that you’re awesome just the way you are

Verse 2:
She said he said BS you better watch your high school mouth
You freak you fag you’re fat BS you need to get beat down
Why’s everything always a high school game oh wait
This land is designed for only the straight kind

Chorus:
You’ve got to feel like you’re in a world where you belong
You’ve got to feel like you’re in a place where you are loved
You’ve got to know that you’re not just someone you’re a star
You’ve got to believe that you’re awesome just the way you are
